Largest known mass suicide in German history;
an estimated 900 to 1,200 people killed themselves following
the invasion of the 65th Soviet Army and the 1st Don-Garde
armoured corps on 30 April, 1945. Suicide incidents reached
a peak following soldiers’ celebrations on 1st May,
1945. Most of the suicides drowned themselves in the rivers
Peene, Trebel and Tollense."
